Notes:

For those of you who haven't read the Marvel Comic Special featuring KISS, there may be some confusion as to how they got their powers. If you want to buy the comic or a reprint, or ask your fellow KISS Army soldier rather than read the section below, do so. But for those of you who don’t' mind Spoilers, I'll attempt to sum it up so you can get the gist of this fanfiction.

Summary of Marvel Special #1

*~*~*~*~

The comic starts off with Gene and Paul as teenagers walking along a street in New York City. Gene is complaining about his dad wanting him to grow up and take up accounting, while Paul listens. Gene ends up throwing away his comic book as they walk away. In the meantime, a sixties throwback hippie named Dizzy is running away from some street thugs who are trying to get a mysterious box from him. As Gene and Paul try to help him, he throws the box to them and tells them to run. Both young men bolt, with the thugs after THEM, and duck into a pinball arcade to hide. Inside, Peter is watching Ace win free game after free game on a pinball machine when Paul and Gene run by them, the thugs in hot pursuit. All four of them duck into a photo booth to hide. Ace comments the box is pretty while the others try to see if they're being followed. When Ace opens the box they find three statues and a star talisman that catch their attention. When the thugs are about to catch them, the photobooth explodes, revealing the four members of KISS with their super powers. They easily polish off the thugs. Gene feels incredibly strong with a touch of bloodlust and passion, able to breathe fire and attack with tremendous strength, as well as 'fly' short distances and send his dragon boots to attack. Paul is able to levitate objects as well as pacify or frighten with a mind touch, as well as fight reasonably effectively hand to hand. Ace can teleport and erect shields of vibratory force. Peter has the strength, senses and agility of a feline, tempered with claws and teeth.

The next few pages detail a surprise meeting with Dr. Doom, who greets the youths with a parade of beautiful Latverian women. Unfortunately he wants the talisman for himself, and when KISS refuse, the women attack, and are revealed to be Doom's robotic creations. A fight ensues, and Ace teleports them away, but they end up being split into two teams and scattered across the universe. Peter and Ace end up in a 'furry' disco, while Gene and Paul end up in 'heaven'.

Peter dances with a feline girl named Mandu, while Ace watches her jealous suitor move up to attack Peter. Ace manages to help Peter fight him off, while Mandu watches in astonishment. All too soon, Ace senses that they have to leave and Peter must bid his feline girlfriend farewell. Meanwhile, cupids and beautiful women serenade Gene and Paul, but the old guy in the beard isn't the Almighty, but something far more sinister. Gene's suspicions turn out to be true, when he blasts the suspicious deity and finds their host is Mephisto. Paul's host of female admirers is in fact demons, and Heaven turns out to be nothing more than a circle of Hades. However they manage to fight their way out, only to be teleported away by Ace back to Earth. They meet up with Dizzy, who explains that Dr. Doom wants the talismen for his own purposes, and that they are in fact the product of an advanced civilization on Earth, akin to Shangri La. The box they opened was 'the box of Kchyzz'.

Both teams arrive in Latveria, where Dr. Doom again confronts them with his spells. The four are captured along with Dizzy, the hermit who gave them the box. A battle ensues in Doom's fortress, and just as Doom is about to destroy the youths, Ace appeals to Doom's sense of compassion, or rather tries to. Dizzy uses this pause in the battle to remind Doom that he was once like they were, and Doom realizes that he cannot destroy Dizzy. This hermit had originally helped Doom's mother from illness, and he owes the man his life. He banishes Dizzy and sends the four back to NYC with a warning. Doom claims this as a victory, and the four are transformed back to their old selves. Dizzy reveals to them that their powers make them 'kings of the nighttime world', but they still must learn to integrate their powers in the attempt to find their true selves. Paul wonders why the box is called "the box of KISS" which is a literal pronunciation of 'the box of Kchyzz', and thus the youths find their name. They return the talismen back to Dizzy until he will again summon them.
